16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear17 for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. Matthew 13:16-17

First let me begin by saying that if you have been born of the Spirit, through Jesus Christ, then you have the ability to hear God’s voice. This Scripture says blessed are your eyes for they see, and blessed are your ears for they hear. Having said that, I’m sure most people will agree that sometimes there can be hinderances on our part. In Hebrews 5:11, Paul mentions how people’s ears can become dull of hearing, spiritually.

I’m not sure if you’re old enough to remember those radios from back in the day that had the knobs on them. You had to fine tune the station in order to clear the static. Well, we know that a radio station is nothing other than a frequency. I remember in my earlier spiritual walk listening to the preacher deliver his message… I used to think that every time a preacher would say, and God said… I used to think he literally heard God’s audible voice every time.

So, part of my spiritual journey… I found myself frustrated and felt like God didn’t love me because I wasn’t hearing an audible voice! We must understand that God is Spirit, and He exist outside of time and space. You see, we exist here in time, but God exists in eternity!

Now, can God speak in an audible voice in the natural realm? Absolutely! But how does God communicate with us most often? Most of the time it’s Spirit to spirit.

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24

God’s way of communication is very similar to the way that we communicate with our cellular phones. In fact, it’s amazing how technology allows us to connect with people from various places around the world. Is that not a miracle itself? So, in like manner, we communicate with God by the power of the Spirit who enables us to perceive what God is speaking to us individually, and to the Church at large.

Revelations 3:22 says, 22 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Jesus said in John 10:27, My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

So, how do we become more in tune with God’s frequency?

To reiterate, one must first be born of the Spirit in order to become connected to God. The Bible tells us that the world is separated from the life of God, as a result of sin, until a person is reborn of the Spirit. On that note, there are many who are deceived into seeking knowledge or guidance from psychics or mediums concerning their future.

19 And when they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living? Isaiah 8:19

It’s no secret that the world looks to horoscopes for spiritual guidance. The Bible tells us that such practices are forbidden by God; Galatians 5:20. For the believer, the Bible says that the Holy Spirit guides us into all truth! And the Bible also says, do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed! Eph 4:30

My next point is that you must renew your mind. The Bible says do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind; Romans 12:2. Do you ever stop and think why the news media only report bad news? It’s all by design!

The Bible says that Satan is the god of this world; meaning this world system. Satan wants the world to remain blind or ignorant concerning God’s plan of salvation; 2 Cor. 4:4. Did you know that God’s plan of salvation can be seen in the stars? Psalms 19:1 The heavens (firmament) declare the glory of God.

The powers of darkness thrive on promoting fear, chaos, and confusion. Why? Fear and confusion will distort your spiritual perception concerning God’s kingdom. Therefore, we are not to be ignorant of Satan’s devices. When we turn the knobs of our hearts towards God through prayer and meditation on God’s Word, we will in essence, fine-tuning our hearts to God’s frequency.

Thirdly, you must purify your heart from things such as fear, doubt, and unbelief; Hebrews 3:12 says, Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Furthermore, Our hearts and minds are like antennas in the realm of the Spirit, and its these are things that can cause spiritual distortion.

Lastly, I felt like this message wouldn’t be complete without mentioning fasting. I know fasting involves a form of suffering in abstaining from food. However, it has many spiritual as well as natural benefits. In Matthew 17:21, Jesus addresses His disciples by saying, these kind come out only by prayer and fasting.

Next, let’s talk about the various ways of how God communicates.

God Speaks in Many Different Ways

In the natural, there are various means of communication. We have verbal language, written language, sign language, and body language. God Speaks in many different ways. Let’s look at Job 33:14-17.

14 For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it.15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falls upon men, While slumbering on their beds, 16 Then He opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction. Job 33:14-17

1.     Dream- Give attention to your dreams. God gave Joseph a dream.

2.     Visions- God may give you a vision. A vision is another one of God’s languages. The Lord showed Peter a vision; Acts 9:10. Peter fell into a trance (vision), and saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth, and he saw various animals. He was able to perceive the meaning of the vision by the Spirit; Acts 10:9, Acts 11:5.

3.     Prophets- God could use a prophet. God used Prophet Nathan to address David’s sin; 2 Samuel 12:12.

4.    Disciples- God can use any of His disciples; Acts 9:10. God sent a disciple by the name of Ananias to meet Paul to restore his sight. Therefore, if you are a disciple of Christ, then be sensitive to the Spirit because God may call upon you to speak to someone on his behalf.

Test the spirits

The Bible also says to test the spirits.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out. 1 John 4:1

This is why we all need discernment. Sometimes God speaks through people even without them realizing it. Secondly, sometimes the devil speaks through people without them realizing it. Jesus addressed Satan whom Paul was speaking under the influence of. Ultimately, whatever God says to you is going to agree with His Word.

My last point is this, it’s chaos all around us! God saw it, so He created you! He created you for a divine purpose! He created you for a great plan! What is your heart sensitive to? You may be asking, why is that important? Because the goal is to do the will of God.

Jesus Christ said my brothers and sisters are those who do the will of God. Having said that, we can perceive all that pertains to the kingdom of God as we esteem God’s Word and become sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Love, Joy, & Peace!
